Almost 2,200 respondents from Finland participated in the survey. Almost half of Finns (45 per cent) who had used or bought drugs last year had bought them online. Second came England, where 29 per cent of respondents had recently bought drugs through the dark network, followed by Australia, 15 per cent.
According to the police, the drug network in Finland is extensive, and there are buyers and sellers from different backgrounds and ages scattered around the country. As a result of the increased use of the Internet, drug trafficking is no longer limited to cities, but has also spread to more remote areas in Finland.
In a press release, KRP announced that it would launch a dark network monitoring project at its online service center, which will provide a more accurate picture of the Finnish drug market.
The fixed-term project was started with additional state funding. It identifies, inter alia, the main platforms used to purchase illicit substances, key market players and the role of organized crime syndicates.
