– We must have more people in the labor market. Especially immigrant women. The alarm clock must ring in all homes in Denmark.
This is how it sounds from Minister of Foreign Affairs and Integration Mattias Tesfaye (S) at another press conference about the government’s reform proposal “Denmark can do more”.
– For many who come here, life starts in a safety net and they do not unwind from it.
– They are on cash benefits year after year. And this is especially true of women, he says.
The proposal was first presented on Tuesday at a press conference with Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen (S) flanked by Minister of Employment Peter Hummelgaard (S) and Minister of Finance Nicolai Wammen (S).
According to Mattias Tesfaye, the statistics show that only just under four out of ten immigrant women originating in the Middle East and North Africa were in employment in 2019.
– The activation rate for any of those who have been here for a long time is quite low. We want people out the door, says Mattias Tesfaye.
