On Monday evening, the police stopped a search for what initially looked like a case of a person who had disappeared in the water at Stege on Møn.
This is stated by the South Zealand and Lolland-Falster Police.
Earlier Monday evening, the police launched a search when they found a shirt, trousers, underpants and an asthma spray on the beach at Langelinie in Stege.
Due to the discovery, a rescue helicopter and several boats were sent out to search for the owner of the clothes, which the police feared could have gone into the water.
But in connection with the police asking for help from the public, it emerged that the clothes had been lying on the beach since Sunday.
– On the occasion of a tweet that my colleague sent out about the search, several citizens called our service center to inform that the clothes were also on the beach yesterday, says duty manager Joy Haensel on Tuesday night.
– Therefore, we have no presumption that someone is missing in the water. And we also have no missing persons at present, she adds.
Due to the new information, the police have decided not to resume the search.
According to Joy Haensel, the case is considered closed.
However, the South Zealand and Lolland-Falster Police are still looking for the owner of the clothes or other persons who may be aware of the effects left behind.
