Former chairman of the Finnish party, Member of Parliament Jussi Halla-aho, has not participated in parliamentary sessions for more than four weeks, Iltalehti has reported.
IL wrote that Halla-aho had been absent from all nine of Parliament’s plenary sessions since the end of last month, during which time she had also ignored meetings of Parliament’s Grand Committee to discuss EU-related legislative, budgetary and contractual issues. as well as the Management Committee.
The absence of the former Basic Finnish leader is also recorded in the minutes of Parliament.
Halla-aho confirmed to Iltalehti that she was on sick leave until October 3, but she did not want to comment further.
Halla-aho last attended the plenary session on 20 August, when Parliament met to discuss the deployment of the Finnish Defense Forces in a security operation around Kabul International Airport in Afghanistan.
In June, the then leader of the populist Finnish party caused a stir when he unexpectedly announced that he did not intend to run for re-election as party chairman. Member of Parliament for Kirkkonummi Riikka Purra was later elected party leader at the summer congress in the city of Seinäjoki on 14 August.
