Nina ForsellThe CEO of the Finnish Lapland Tourist Office (LME) shared the disappointment and reminded that vaccination coverage has also increased in Lapland.
– We would have strong immunity against the risks here. There should be no risks to public health or health care capacity, even if there are no longer any specific restrictions, โhe commented to the broadcaster.
Forsell considered that the restrictions should be lifted altogether.
โIf we lift restrictions in other areas of society when vaccination coverage reaches 80 percent, it should also apply to travel restrictions,โ he said. “If there were no restrictions, it would mean that we would rely on normal entry regulations, which means that there are certain border controls for people from outside the EU and the EEA. But nothing else.”
The rationale for the proposed extension of restrictions has also been questioned at the Department of Health and Welfare (THL).
“It simply came to our notice then [extending the restrictions] is a way to prevent the spread of a possible new variant to Finland, โwas analyzed Mika Salminen, THL Health Manager. “But it is a fact that it has not been blocked anywhere else and all previous variants have found their way to Finland.”
Strait on Sunday said YLE that exposure to the virus, whether or not the applicant had done it abroad, would not lead to widespread infections if the target of 80% vaccination is achieved. He added that the vaccines used in the country provide solid protection against serious forms of the disease, regardless of variant.
