Snow blizzards in most parts of Iceland

The Icelandic Meteorological Institute has issued weather alerts for much of the country today.

In Faxaflói, in West Iceland, a Yellow Weather Alert will apply from 2 p.m. to midnight. This does not include the capital area. Rain or snowfall is forecast. Bad road conditions are expected.

A yellow weather alert was in effect today in Breiðafjörður Bay in the west of Iceland, and there will be another blizzard tomorrow between 11am and 3pm. The worst weather will be between 3 p.m. and 11 p.m. tomorrow when the orange alert goes into effect. Traveling is not recommended during this time.

A snowstorm is expected in the Westfjords this afternoon between 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. Tomorrow from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM, the Orange Weather Alert will be in effect. Traveling during this time is strongly discouraged.

In North West Iceland, there will be a yellow weather alert tomorrow from 8.00 to 21.00, blizzards and poor driving conditions are expected. The same is true for Northeast Iceland from 6am to 2pm, as well as the Central Highlands from 10am to 6pm.
