Last year, an increasing number of women have been enrolled in the women’s shelters.
This is shown by a statement from Statistics Denmark.
The women’s shelters help abused women and their children to a future without violence. This is done, among other things, with professional advice.
According to Statistics Denmark, 2294 women lived at the centers last year. Of these, 1838 have been enrolled during the year. This is an increase of three percent compared to the previous year.
One of the explanations for the increase is the corona epidemic, where more families have been more together at home. This is explained by Kamilla Bjørn Drøidal, director of the National Organization of Women’s Crisis Centers (LOKK).
– In part, we can see from international studies that there has been more violence in the home during the corona.
– In part, it has probably also been important that we on the part of society have been really good at putting more focus on violence in close relationships.
– We have also shown that it pays to reach out to women and children who have been locked up all the time with their perpetrator, says the director.
LOKK represents 52 women’s shelters around the country.
