The agreement means that a total of 39 bicycle projects have been approved for around 270 million. 27 bike paths are along state roads. In addition, 12 municipal projects have received 50 percent support from the state.
Transport Minister Benny Engelbrecht (S) believes it is important that there is constant investment in cycle paths, so that it becomes more attractive to cycle.
– Cycling is first and foremost really healthy. The more people who jump on the bike, the better it is both for our climate, but also for the individual’s health.
– Investing in cycling is a really good societal investment, and therefore it is of great importance that we ensure that there are some good and safe cycle paths, he says.
The 39 projects are spread across the country.
For example, a cycle path between Bramming and Store Darum in Esbjerg Municipality has received 11.1 million for the project, while Greve Municipality has received 2.9 million to establish a common path for cyclists and pedestrians along the Kรธge Bay Motorway.
The projects that have been awarded money are especially chosen on the basis that as many people as possible benefit from the project and that it contributes to creating a greater coherence.
Earlier this year, DKK 370 million was distributed to 20 new bicycle projects. And now there is again investment in cycling.
Benny Engelbrecht also emphasizes that this investment is far from the last in cycling in Denmark.
– It is clear that there will also be better cycle paths in the years to come. For example, next year it is expected that DKK 400 million will be invested in cycling.
– So this is not a sentence, it’s just a dash for next year. Because we must ensure good cycle paths on an equal footing with better railways and other things, he says.
In addition to the DKK 270 million, DKK 13 million has also been set aside for knowledge and innovation projects across the country.
This involves, among other things, studies on how seniors become more confident on electric bicycles, and how good cycling habits can be established in adolescence.
