The sixth seeded Ons Jabeur in Tunisia had 28 winners while making a 6-4, 6-2 victory over leading Elina Svitolina of Ukraine on Friday to reach the semifinals of the Chicago Fall Tennis Classic.
Svitolina had only nine winners in a match that Jabeur controlled for most of 82 minutes. Jabeur will face fifth-seeded Elena Rybakina from Kazakhstan, who led 6-4, 3-1 when third-seeded Belinda Bencic from Switzerland retired with a right knee injury.
Second-seeded Garbine Muguruza was never in danger of getting upset when he recorded a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Japanese qualifier Mai Hontama. Muguruza looks set to reach the final for the fourth time this season.
Muguruza will face Marketa Vondrousova after the Czech Republic collected a 6-7 (4), 6-0, 7-6 (3) victory over ten-seeded American Danielle Collins. Vondrousova had 26 winners and 17 unforced errors while Collins made 36 unforced errors to go with 33 winners.
Astana Open
Top-seeded Yulia Putintseva in Kazakhstan recorded a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Rebecca Peterson from Sweden to advance to the final in Nur-Sultan, Kazakhstan.
Putintseva moved closer to his third career victory with the strong performance at home. She will face second-seeded Belgian Alison Van Uytvanck in the final.
Van Uytvanck defeated Jaqueline Cristian of Romania 6-3, 6-3 in her semifinal. Van Uytvanck made 32 unforced errors but Christian committed 43.
