Early in the morning, around 7:17 am, a 3.3 degree earthquake shook the Reykjanes Peninsula near Keilir. The quake was felt in many places.
The website of the Meteorological Office states that the source of the earthquake was 1.3 kilometers southwest of Keilir.
It was not the only earthquake above 3 degrees. Last night, at around 2:15 am, the area was shaken by a magnitude 3.0 earthquake. The epicenter was 1.1 km southwest of Keilir.
The series of earthquakes in this area began on September 27, and there have been approximately 6,200 quakes since then, 12 of which were above 3.0 on the Richter scale.
The largest earthquake was recorded on October 2, at 3:32 pm, and it had a magnitude of 4.2 on the Richter scale. Its epicenter was in the southwestern part of the Reykjanes Peninsula.
