– Overall, the agreement shows the way to how Danish agriculture can reduce greenhouse gas emissions by up to 7.4 million tonnes of CO2 by 2030, the ministry writes in a press release.
However, a large part of the reductions depends on development and new technology. In the agreement itself, there are initially concrete initiatives that ensure a reduction of 1.9 million tonnes of CO2 emissions.
At the same time, the agreement opens up more money to restructure agriculture. According to the Ministry of Finance’s press release, the agreement will provide approximately DKK 3.8 billion more in state funds.
The agreement also contains measures for reductions of nitrogen in Danish aquatic environments. In total, the agreement has found initiatives for a nitrogen reduction of 10,800 tonnes in 2027.
Although with the current calculations it is not enough to ensure that Denmark complies with the EU Water Framework Directive. This requires a reduction of 13,100 tonnes in nitrogen emissions.
The agreement states, however, that the parties agree that the last reductions must be found when the agreement is later revisited.
– In connection with a revisit of the agreement in 2023/24, the shortfall (difference, ed.) Is handled in order to live up to the Water Framework Directive, the agreement text states.
Although the agreement is supported by almost all parties in the Folketing, not everyone is unconditionally enthusiastic about the agreement on Monday night.
– We are also in a situation where big steps can be too small, says Mai Villadsen, who is political rapporteur for the Unity List.
According to her, the party would have liked to have gone further to get more reductions.
At the same time, she announces that the Unity List believes that climate agreements in other areas should be renegotiated because the climate agreement for agriculture in their eyes does not deliver enough.
