So far, only 1.9 billion kroner of the 20 billion has been paid out. According to the plan, the compensation for the growers must be completed within three years.
However, several professionals estimate that it may take even longer than the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Fisheries has estimated. It writes DR.
According to Anette Kusk, lawyer and partner at Dahl Law, the work on the cases will definitely drag on.
– It is extremely pressured and seems unrealistic to reach the cases within three years. You can not just make one model and then roll it out on all other farms.
– There will be individual conditions on each individual farm, which must be decided. Even if you have done some trial cases first, she tells DR.
Anette Kusk calls the schedule “unrealistic” because, according to her, there are only about 50 lawyers who have experience with this type of case and therefore do not have enough time in the calendar.
Professor of financial management Per Nikolaj Bukh agrees. He points out that everything must bottle up if the three-year schedule is to hold.
– You may be worried about whether it takes too long to get started. Are there really enough lawyers who set aside time for that. Are there any complexities that have not been taken into account, he says to DR.
The DKK 1.9 billion that the Danish Veterinary and Food Administration has paid to the industry is, among other things, remuneration for killing mink and a tempo bonus.
The payment of the closure compensation itself has not yet started.
This is because each grower must have their case assessed in a valuation commission to determine how much they should have in compensation.
In a written quote, Food Minister Rasmus Prehn (S) says he still expects the cases to be processed within three years. But that it is a big task that takes time.
– My officials tell me that they expect the work to take about three years before all mink breeders have received a decision from the compensation and assessment commissions and paid their full compensation, it reads.
Rasmus Prehn wanted it to go even faster. That is why he is ready to look at “the framework for the commissions, so that the cases can be settled more quickly if the need arises”.
On Thursday, the mink commission, which is to uncover the course, will begin its interrogations.
