“On World Mental Health Day, October 10, we will release new mental health resources, tools and programming in all of our applications. We will work with mental health experts and organizations around the world to get the support people need and publish new content and tools to encourage people to start discussions about mental health,” Facebook said.
The company explained that it has joined forces with numerous mental health experts to introduce new tools at its emotional health resource center, including resource cards that provide tips for positive mental health and guides to support mental health for various communities such as blacks, Asians, Latinos and others.
With Facebook-owned WhatsApp, UNICEF has launched a new Global Mental Health bot that provides tips for communicating and introduced new suicide prevention tools.
On Tuesday, the former Facebook product manager Frances Haugen said of the congressional testimony that the social media network was allegedly aware that it harmed the mental health of young people, but did little to prevent content that promoted “anger and division” and content that created a toxic environment for teenage girls. Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg denied Haugen ‘s allegations.
