Imagine Peace Tower is an outdoor work of art by Yoko Ono – was erected on Viðey Island in 2007 in memory of John Lennon. The tower is lit annually on October 9 and illuminates the sky until December 8, the day the musician was murdered in 1980.

This light symbolizes the struggle of John Lennon and Yoko Ono for peace. On the tower are the words “Imagine peace” written in 24 languages.

At 6:30 PM, representatives of the Reykjavik Art Museum will show visitors around the works by Richard Serra on the island, and at 6:45 PM, they will present historical information about the island.

This will be followed by musician Ásgeir Trausti, followed by the Mayor of Reykjavík, Dagur B. Eggertsson, giving a speech and the tower will be illuminated.
