The Danish People’s Party loses a prominent local politician as a member after the police charged him with drunk driving.
Frederikssund’s deputy mayor Lars Thelander Bostrøm will leave the party, the party secretary informs Frederiksborg Amts Avis.
– I see coverage of the incident in the newspaper and call him. I recommend that it is best for him and for the DF that he resigns from the party. Which he then indicates that he does, says party secretary Steen Thomsen according to the regional media sn.dk.
The deputy mayor was arrested the other day in his home in Jægerspris and was charged with drunk driving. At the same time, police seized his BMW.
According to sn.dk, Lars Thelander Bostrøm has denied driving while intoxicated. It was the friend who was sitting at the wheel, he said.
On Monday, a judge will decide whether to seize the car.
If the per mille turns out to be over 2.00, Lars Thelander Bostrøm risks being charged under the relatively new provision in the Traffic Act on insane motoring.
Among other things, exceeding the speed limit by more than 100 percent and driving under the influence of alcohol with a blood alcohol level of more than 2.00 are among the offenses mentioned in the section.
If there is a so-called reasonable suspicion of insanity, judges tend to uphold police seizure of the vehicle that has been used.
In a possible later criminal case in court, it will be clarified whether the state confiscates the car.
Incidentally, the DF does not run again in the local elections. It was already decided last year, writes sn.dk.
