Björk will play four concerts in the coming weeks, the first of which took place yesterday evening. It was Björk’s first concert in Iceland in three years. Part of the proceeds from the concert will be donated to the Association of Women’s Shelters. The money will be spent on looking after children staying in the shelter – on average, there are eleven of them each day.
Björk performs his works together with the Icelandic Symphony Orchestra and Hamrahlíðarkórinn, among others. Tickets for all concerts are sold out. However, you can watch the concerts live on the RÚV 2 channel, listen to the Rás 1 radio or buy access to live streaming. Some of the proceeds from streaming will also be donated to Women’s Shelters.
“These funds will go to work with children at the shelter. We place emphasis on ensuring that the children staying with us receive the best possible care and a lot of positive experiences from their stay in the shelter. On average, twelve women and eleven children stay with us every day, and this has been the case for the last year. Of course, we always make sure people think of the Women’s Refuge and warmth to those who live there, but of course the support of a “superpower” like Björk Guðmundsdóttir is invaluable. “ Says Sigþrúður Guðmundsdóttir, director of Samtaka um kvennaathvarf (Association of Women’s Shelters).
