The political agreement is to increase the number of study places outside the major cities. Conversely, the uptake must be reduced here.
It is not known which programs will be affected, as the faculties will only now be preparing for the reorganization. It is expected to happen from 2023.
– We must be finished in 2030, so that the total annual reduction of places will be small 200 from 2023 onwards, says vice-rector Bente Stallknecht.
However, not all seats will be closed. For example, it is planned to move approximately 200 places on the medical education to Kรธge.
But the university will primarily close study places, it is stated.
The Faculty of Humanities is the hardest hit, where you can study Danish and rhetoric, among other things.
It is planned that the intake will be reduced by 640 places. This corresponds to one in four of those who are admitted to the faculty annually.
According to Bente Stallknecht, this is due to the fact that there is a skeleton for employment among the graduates from the faculties.
– Some educations at the Faculty of Humanities have a slightly lower employment than at the rest of the university, she says.
According to her, the lower uptake is likely to have an impact on the admission quotients. This is the grade point average it takes to be admitted.
– If there is the same number of students who want to enter the programs, all other things being equal, it will increase, she says.
The final plan for which educations are to close places will be adopted in December, the press release states.
However, it is not certain that the seats will disappear completely. According to Bente Stallknecht, negotiations are also taking place between the universities.
– We hope that some of the places can be relocated to the province. We discuss this with the other universities.
– It can be a merger of smaller educations, or that we jointly create education branches or colleges around the country, says the vice-rector.
There are approximately 38,000 students at the University of Copenhagen.
At the most recent application round in July, almost 7,700 were offered a study place on a bachelor’s program.
