For the fourth week in a row, fewer people have been diagnosed with RS virus than the week before.
This is shown by the latest statement from the Statens Serum Institut (SSI).
However, there are still many cases of the respiratory infection that have come quite unusually early this year.
Last week, 848 people were found infected with the virus. The week before, there were 1002 confirmed cases.
The highest number so far in a week in SSI’s inventory was seen in week 36. Here there were 1321 cases of infection.
According to SSI, this year there are “extraordinarily high infection rates”. It is seen three to four times more per week than during normal winter seasons.
Usually, the RS virus inhabits from December to March. This year, however, it has already been seen during the summer.
The virus most often causes mild cold-like symptoms. However, it can also cause serious illness, especially in infants.
