The citizens’ proposal “Stop the repatriation of Syrian refugees to dangerous and insecure conditions” has rounded 50,000 signatures.
It appears on Monday evening from the website borgerslur.dk.
This means that the proposal must be considered by the Folketing.
The citizens’ proposal states that they want the Folketing to change the law that gives the Danish authorities the opportunity to send refugees back to Syria.
– We want a law that ensures that a refugee can only have his or her asylum residence permit revoked if there have been “fundamental, stable and lasting changes” in the home country, as stated in the UN Refugee Convention, the citizens’ proposal reads.
The citizens’ proposal was submitted on 22 April this year.
In 2015, the Folketing passed a law that made it possible to make an asylum seeker’s protection status temporary.
When a citizens’ proposal reaches 50,000 signatories, the Folketing must take a position on the proposal.
Only members of the Folketing and ministers can make proposals in the Folketing. Therefore, the parties in the Folketing must decide who puts forward the proposal.
Thereafter, the proposal will be treated in the same way as other resolution proposals in the Folketing.
