It’s been a month since magma first emerged from the crater in Geldingadalur. The eruption was therefore in a state of rest. Nevertheless, people still wander to this area, albeit to a lesser extent than before.
The Icelandic Tourist Board tracks the number of people who have traveled to the eruption sites since the eruption began this spring. According to information from the Icelandic Tourist Organization, a total of 324 778 people saw it since the eruption began. Therefore, traffic has been steady in recent months.
At the beginning of the eruption, traffic was obviously the highest, in the first days, on average, more than six thousand people made daily trips to the eruption site.
From the time the magma stopped flowing out of the crater on September 18 until Saturday, October 16, 29,406 people reached the eruption sites, which is just over a thousand a day.
