The campaign – scheduled to start on November 8 – is the first in three years to span the entire Afghanistan, including 3.3 million children who have previously been vaccinated, Khaama Press said.
Dapeng Luo, The WHO representative for Afghanistan praised the decision. Luo stressed that the step is very important.
Emphasizing that multiple doses of the oral polio vaccine provide the best protection, Luo said, “We are pleased to see that another campaign is planned before the end of this year.”
Luo stressed that continued access for all children is โnecessary to stop polioโ once and for all.
Meanwhile, UNICEF in Afghanistan, along with its partners, is planning plans to completely eradicate polio from the country, says Khaama Press.
Vaccines are given to children aged 6 to 59 months according to the program.
The WHO urged local leaders to respect the neutrality of the health system and said they must ensure that every child gets vaccinated in their neighborhood.
