– Of course, we support the citizens’ proposal. For the situation in Syria is extremely serious. It is really, really dangerous to send people there, says foreign affairs spokeswoman Eva Flyvholm (EL).
According to foreign affairs rapporteur Carl Valentin, SF’s parliamentary group has not yet had time to discuss the proposal. But the main message of the proposal is fully supported.
– We think it is really good that there are people who are fighting for this proposal. Because it is grotesque to send people to Syria with the unstable situation that is right now, says foreign affairs spokesman Carl Valentin (SF).
He stresses that there is no doubt that the party fully agrees that “one should not send people back as the situation is right now”.
The Radical Left supports the proposal, writes foreign affairs rapporteur Kathrine Olldag:
– I am very happy that more than 50,000 Danes agree with us that Syria is not safe and that the repatriations must stop.
When a citizens’ proposal rounds out 50,000 signatories, the Folketing must take a position on it. Only members of the Folketing and ministers can make proposals.
As a general rule, it is the political rapporteurs from the parties who support the system of citizens’ proposals who jointly put forward the proposal.
The citizens’ proposal on Syrian refugees is from 22 April this year. The proposal will change a law from 2015 that allows Danish authorities to send refugees back to Syria.
The law will make it possible to make the protection status of an asylum seeker temporary.
According to the Unity List rapporteur, there is a very high risk that refugees will end up in one of President “Basher al-Assad’s torture prisons”.
– It is extremely violent what is being documented, also from the Damascus area. So it is completely indefensible to send them to Syria. Also to Damascus, says Eva Flyvholm.
The government’s support parties have, among other things, in a consultation with Minister of Foreign Affairs and Integration Mattias Tesfaye (S) previously put pressure on the government.
The Social Democrats have not signaled that the party will change its position on the issue.
– I still hope that the government can reach a place where they can see for themselves that this policy is completely unsustainable, she says.
The Social Democrats have not yet commented on the citizens’ proposal after it has obtained 50,000 signatories.
