A politician from Norddjurs Municipality was convicted of racism last year. This is confirmed by the politician to TV2 East Jutland.
This is Steen Jensen, who is a city council politician for the Danish People’s Party in Norddjurs Municipality.
He was convicted about a year ago for a comment on Facebook in which he linked Muslim immigration with rising crime in areas.
– I had just written that it was strange that where Muslims came, crime increased. I was not allowed to write that because the judge said that one must not make a certain grouping suspicious, he says to TV2 East Jutland.
He was convicted under section 266 b of the Penal Code – popularly called the racism section – and was fined DKK 2,500. He reportedly received the verdict, which he does not see a problem with.
The comment compares Steen Jensen to saying that “Germans eat a lot of sausages and drink a lot of beer”.
Børge Jacobsen, treasurer of the Danish People’s Party’s local board in Norddjurs, confirms that the board was informed of the verdict, but that it did not lead to more.
Steen Jensen is deputy chairman of the local board.
He informs TV2 East Jutland that he has been advised by his lawyer not to comment on the verdict. But he is doing so now, and he flatly admits that he is doing it to promote himself up to the November 16 local elections.
– Then I say this to tell any voters who want to vote for New Citizens that they do not need it. Because I am there, and I am the watchdog in Norddjurs City Council, which has always opposed immigration. Always, says Steen Jensen to TV2 East Jutland.
He was elected to the city council in the local elections in 2013 and re-elected in 2017. Steen Jensen is number two on the list of Danish People’s Party candidates in the municipality for the elections in November.
