Kabul [Afghanistan]October 26 (ANI): Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, Deputy Prime Minister of the Taliban-announced interim government, met with UN Development Program Director (UNDP) Director Achim Steiner in Doha and discussed various issues including the deteriorating economic situation, according to a media report.
Mohammad Naeem, the Taliban’s spokesman for the political office, said in a series of tweets that the meeting focused on the current situation in Afghanistan, according to Ariana News.
Naeem also said that during the meeting, some other issues were also discussed, such as the deteriorating economic situation in the country and the treatment of drug addicts.
Mullah Baradar expressed his gratitude to the UNDP for its help and called on the UNDP to increase its assistance to the people in various areas. In response, Steiner also promised continued support to Afghans.
Earlier on Saturday, the Swedish Minister for Development Aid Per Olsson warned Fridh that Afghanistan would collapse into chaos if the international community did not act quickly.
“The country is on the verge of collapse and that collapse is coming faster than we thought,” Fridh said.
Fridh emphasized that an economically free fall could provide an environment for terrorist groups to thrive, and emphasized that Sweden would not channel money through the Taliban. Instead, it will increase humanitarian aid through Afghan civil society groups, according to Dawn. (ANI)
