First-term MP Atte Harjanne has been elected the new chair of the Group of the Greens.
Ridge’s victory was scarce, and the vote advanced to the second round. In the first round, Harjanne faced the MPs of the first season Saara Hyrkkö and Jenni Pitko, who are currently Vice-Chairs of the Group. In the second round, Harjanne faced Pitko, who served as interim chairman of the Group of the Greens. Emma Kari.
Harjanne is a 37-year-old engineer who previously worked as a researcher at the Finnish Meteorological Institute. He is also a member of the Helsinki City Council, for which he was elected for the first time in the 2017 municipal elections.
Ridge is more financially liberal and to the right of his party colleagues, which he sees as an advantage of everyday politics. At a post-election press conference, he speculated that his ability to bridge political differences affected today’s vote.
"I am considered somewhat of a bridge builder, a good partner and a listener. I think it certainly had an impact today. Not that the other two candidates lacked these strengths," Your ridge said.
The arrangement within the Greens is the responsibility of the Minister of the Interior Maria Ohisalo on maternity leave.
First-term MP Iiris Suomela he was previously appointed interim chairman of the party from Ohisalo, but will not take up the post of interior minister.
Current Minister of Environment and Climate Krista Mikkonen takes over Ohisalo as Minister of the Interior and Emma Kari becomes Minister of the Environment, leaving the role of the chairman of the parliamentary group open.
