Viðar Þorsteinsson, CEO of Efling, explains that reports from employees in recent days regarding their insecurity, anxiety and fear of dismissal are not genuine. Former employees have built a solid basis for the false accusations against him and Sólveig Annie Jónsdóttir, the outgoing chairwoman, whom he calls “slanderous misrepresentations.”
One request from Efling employees was to allow them to organize a meeting to discuss the atmosphere in the workplace, but management declined. Viðar says this is not a correct account of the situation as management felt the request had expired after discussions with board members.
Changes in the company made it necessary to lay off some employees. In the resolution, workers expressed their concern about the number of layoffs, as 22 people had been made redundant in three years.
“Retraining employees was one of our biggest and most difficult tasks “ Viðar says. This was needed with the change of emphasis on the company’s management board. He points out that a group of former Efling employees began to slander the company’s management.
“It presents such a reality that it is quite easy to make very blatant and false accusations against us.” Viðar says. She adds that this is a tool employees have used to achieve their goals and calls it a culture of violence.
