Health Minister Svandís Svavarsdóttir expects to receive a memorandum from an epidemiologist today on further measures to reduce the spread of the coronavirus.
He also expects that the possibility of introducing new, stricter domestic restrictions will be discussed at tomorrow’s morning government meeting.
Epidemiologist Þórólfur Guðnason said this afternoon that he was thinking of a memorandum on tightening domestic measures and it could be ready for tomorrow’s government meeting.
Yesterday, 144 people were diagnosed with COVID-19 in the country, 104 of whom were out of quarantine. Since the outbreak, only twice more infections have been diagnosed than yesterday, but never before has the number of out-of-quarantine infections been so high.
This morning, in an interview with the news agency, Þórólfur said he was concerned about the situation. He also wondered how to deal with it.
“I think we all need to think about what needs to be done to stop this. We know what the requirements are. We have to start working together and think carefully about what to do next, and this is what I discussed with the government ” Þórólfur said this morning.
