It’s funny how Kojak has always been popular for jokes about poets. But did he ever have a scientist to say “Who loves you, speccy?” to? Captain Jean-Luc Picard certainly had one, if not two. One was a member of the undead, the other MC Hammer. Oddly enough, none of them have been seen since the theme of ‘The Addams Family’ was sung at a tomb.
Well, the bald and scientist combination is back – in fact, let’s call them ‘Next Generation’. Two American comedians, magician Harris Fellman (Funny Bald Magician) and stand-up scientist Dr Matthew Murtha (Dr Matt’s Life of Science), have teamed up to host a fantastic show, ‘Science vs Magic Tour’, and there’s a chance to see them both in action, back to back, on the evening of 23 November at Drop Inn, which can be found at Kompagnistræde 34 in the center of Copenhagen.
Furthermore, they will also perform in Odense on 19 November, Aarhus on 21 November and in Lund in Sweden on 22 November. Needless to say, for safety’s sake, both of their shows are entirely in English.
Mind-reading llamas!
Fellman, much in the tradition of offbeat comic magicians like Rune Klan or Lioz Shem Tov – but not so much ‘taking yourself deathly seriously’ artists, such as David Blane, ‘I’m a showman … look at me !!’ posists like David Copperfield – like to engage the audience, so do not expect to spend the entire show sitting down!
“Don’t let the ‘English’ scare you away. Magic transcends language because it’s so visual – so even if your English is as bad as Harris’ Spanish, you’ll still have it great!” promises the tour operators.
Have you ever seen magic with tortillas or a mind-reading llama? Exactly! That’s why Harris Fellman’s show really needs to be seen to be believed.
Even popular with husbands
Already an experienced artist around the world, Fellman appeared last week on Spain’s Got Talent, and in the same country, the Barcelona Metropolitan hailed his show as “an evening filled with laughter, wonder and just a ton of fun!”
Comedy Clubhouse is also a fan. “Harris’ shows always bring the house down !! He is a great performer. 10 out of 10 and would definitely recommend it! “It chimed.
From other reviewers, it is clear that Harris is equally popular among both sexes. “Thank you for even making my husband laugh!” said a satisfied (well, at the show at least) audience.
Doctor in the house!
Dr. Matthew Murtha, meanwhile, is actually a true scientist – a cancer biologist to be exact – and he derives countless joy from the assumptions people make about his profession and several amusing anecdotes about the challenges he faces.
The latter sometimes gives some rather dark humor, and like Fellman, the doctor likes to engage with his audience.
He is also an experienced tourer and has opened up to people like Judah Friedlander and Jim Gaffigan in what has been a thriving career.
After all, you hear ‘scientist comedians’ and you know right away who they’re talking about!
Not just for rocket scientists!
It’s definitely an original bid for standup comedy, as Murtha not only brings the house down, but he also manages to educate his audience.
But it must be emphasized that no scientific knowledge is required to enjoy the show.
As Comedy Clubhouse BCN endorses, this is “a direct injection of humor directly into the brain!”
