Russia’s leading energy export group, Transneft, said the move could cause short-term disruptions. Transneft spokesman Igor Demin said it had received “maintenance notices” which are expected to be completed by the end of this week.
Belarusian operator Gomeltransneft Druzhba said work began late Tuesday night and temporarily reduced oil supplies to the EU. But Belarusian authorities claim that monthly oil exports are not affected and meet supply quotas.
Friendship Pipeline connects Central Russia’s oil fields to Poland, Hungary, the Czech Republic and Germany.
