The peak season is bustling – E-commerce Christmas shopping started earlier this year

The increase in e-commerce activity caused by the COVID-19 pandemic has come to stay and the trade is moving online permanently.

“The Christmas season is the busiest time of the year for us, and all types of delivery have seen growth: packages are delivered to people’s homes, for pick-up and mail times. Our renewed home delivery has been very popular, up 60% from last year. It is heartwarming to see how much this growth will benefit small businesses in Finland as well. As usual, we believe that the number of packages will increase as Christmas approaches, ”he says Tommi Kässi, Postin COO.

According to the hand, Posti’s record work last week went well.

“We do our best to ensure that all customers get their package quickly and to the place they want. Preparations for the peak season began earlier this year. However, the ever-changing COVID-19 situation and the constraints associated with it have made it challenging to predict the number of packets. Many of our customers want to avoid busy shopping and order directly from home instead.

Posti has prepared for the season e.g. 101 temporary pick-up points will be opened all over Finland, increases transportation frequency and hires thousands of Christmas workers. The post office delivers packages during the high season in the largest cities every day of the week. Posti has built a wider retail network throughout the year by opening 5–10 new parcel machines a week. There are now 400 more vending machines than a year ago. This year, Posti has already opened 100 new outlets offering personal services. The post office now has almost 3,300 service points.
