The Defense Forces have canceled the parade on Independence Day scheduled for December 6 in the city of Lahti due to the worsening coronavirus situation.
The parade held in Pori last year was also canceled due to the pandemic.
The organizers of the parade had planned all the service areas of the Finnish Army, including the National Defense College and the Finnish Border Guard, as well as veterans’ and national defense organizations.
lieutenant colonel Kai NaumanenThe head of the Häme Regional Office of the Finnish Defense Forces confirmed the cancellation on the basis of preliminary information from Ylelle Lahti regional newspaper Etelä-Suomen Sanomat.
Naumanen explained that the decision was made in the interests of the Defense Forces’ own staff and participants in the parade, as well as the general public.
He added that it is unlikely that the procession will take place next year in Lahti, as the events are planned years in advance and it is difficult to make changes.
