The annual meeting was scheduled to take place in Davos-Klosters, Switzerland on 17-21. January 2022. It is now planned for the early summer in the light of the continuing uncertainty about the Omicron epidemic, read the WEF bulletin.
Despite the strict health practices of the meeting, Omicron’s portability and its impact on travel and mobility have made the postponement necessary.
The health and safety of everyone who attends the physical meetings – participants, partners and the host community – has always been a priority for the forum, the press release says.
“Postponing the annual meeting will not hinder progress in the ongoing digital meeting of business, government and civil society leaders,” the professor said. Klaus Schwab, Founder and President of the World Economic Forum.
“Public-private partnerships have progressed throughout the pandemic and will continue at a rapid pace. We look forward to bringing global leaders together in person soon.”
Participants, on the other hand, will join the headline series of State of the World sessions that will bring together global leaders online to focus on designing solutions to the world’s most pressing challenges, the announcement added.
The current pandemic conditions make it very difficult to arrange a global face-to-face meeting. Preparations have been guided by expert advice and the close co-operation of the Swiss government at all levels has benefited.
