Former President of Finland Martti Ahtisaari According to the Office of the President, the Covid test is positive for the second time. The infection was confirmed on Wednesday, December 29th.
A press release said that Ahtisaari is well off the circumstances, but he is in hospital.
The 84-year-old former president was diagnosed with Covid earlier in March 2020. At the time, his wife Eeva Ahtisaari also received a virus diagnosis.
Ahtisaari also suffers from Alzheimer’s disease and has withdrawn from all public activities as a result. The Office of the President of the Republic announced that he would retire in September this year.
Martti Ahtisaari was the 10th President of Finland and served from 1994 to 2000. He is a Nobel Prize winner, winning the Nobel Peace Prize in 2008 for his work in international conflict resolution.
He is also the founder of the Crisis Management Initiative, a non-profit organization committed to mediation and conflict resolution.
