Kochi (Kerala) [India], January 6 (ANI): India’s female soccer midfielder Indumathi Kathiresan said communication with the players on the pitch is an important aspect, as it helps the team know what mistakes they are making.
“It’s all about communicating on the pitch to fill in the missing areas, when you play in midfield. People mistaken it for pointing out other people’s mistakes. But it’s not about that. If I do not, they may not know what they have done wrong, and vice versa, “said Indumathi Kathiresan according to an AIFF release.
“When they (my teammates) look into my eyes on the pitch, they should know that even if they make a mistake, I will give my life to come and help them; and when I look them in the eye, I also want to see. “It’s what playing for the country is about. That’s what football is about,” she added.
While the 27-year-old midfielder emphasizes the importance of communicating with her teammates, it was not so long ago that she herself found communication as one of the most difficult parts of football.
“I had then been called to a national team test among 50 girls. But I was the only one from Tamil Nadu. No other girl spoke Tamil, and I knew neither Hindi nor English, so I could not really communicate with anyone. Not being able to talk to anyone in your vicinity in more than a month is really difficult, says Indumathi Kathiresan.
The AFC Asian Cup is just around the corner, and the Blue Tigresses have played a number of friendly matches in the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Sweden and Brazil as part of their preparations for the continental extravaganza. The 27-year-old midfielder feels that the matches were of a very high quality, something that benefits the team.
“The friendly matches have helped a lot. All the matches were of high quality. We all played with the Asian Cup in mind. The Brazil match was especially tough. We tried so hard to handle that match, everyone gave their best,” said the midfielder.
The hosts are India in Group A of the AFC Women’s Asian Cup and have been drawn along with IR Iran (January 20), Chinese Taipei (January 23) and China PR (January 26). After playing both Iran and Chinese Taipei for the past two years, Indumathi believes that every inch of the lawn must be fought for against all teams in Group A of the Asian Cup.
“We have improved a lot, but they would also have come to fight in the Asian Cup. I feel it will be a fight to the bitter end, but we are ready to give everything. We take it match by match,” he said. Indumathi Kathiresan. (ANI)
