Helsinki police catch escaped reindeer

Helsinki police have caught a reindeer roaming the Hague area on a Friday afternoon in the Hague area.

Additional observations of the animal had been reported to the police later in the day on Friday and also on Saturday morning.

In the tweet pictured below, police said they were caught "tired refugee" in the capital’s City Garden on Saturday afternoon.

The animal was carefully inspected by a veterinarian before being transported to the Korkeasaari Zoo. The vet also confirmed that the animal is a reindeer, police added.

Reindeer sightings on the streets of the capital sparked quite a stir on social media, and police said they were still working to find out the owner of the animal.
