COPENHAGEN, January 10 (Xinhua) – The Danish Sports Confederation (DIF) announced on Monday the country’s first ever Olympic ice hockey team for women, which will compete at the upcoming Olympic Winter Games in Beijing.
“We are still nagging about the fact that we are sending two national teams in ice hockey, both men’s and women’s teams, to the Winter Olympics,” says Mikkel Sansone Ohrgaard, head of the Danish Winter Olympic team.
“Our efforts have paid off, and we look forward to following the two laws in China.”
Denmark competes in the Winter Olympics with its largest delegation ever.
The women’s ice hockey team is in a group with Japan, the Czech Republic, Sweden and China, who all compete for three qualifying places to advance to the next round.
“We are a good team with a good mix of experienced and young players, and we have been in a really good period since before the corona. It was incredible that we qualified for the Olympics, and the Winter Olympics will be an incredible experience. . ” said team captain Josefine Jakobsen.
“But we are not going to Beijing on holiday. We are going with the goal of delivering some really good results, and I do not think that a quarter-final place is unrealistic,” says Jakobsen in the press release.
Denmark, ranked 11th by the International Hockey Federation (IHF), opens its campaign on February 4 against China, ranked 20th.
