Health authority THL announced on Thursday that quarantine after a diagnosis of Covid could be shortened to five days.
The duration of quarantine and isolation prescribed by an infectious disease doctor after a diagnosis of Covid has been ten days, but according to health authorities it is no longer necessary.
As a result of the Omicron mutation, the virus cycle has accelerated and longer quarantine is no longer justified, THL chief physician Otto Helve said at a news conference Thursday morning.
In the new physician guidelines, the physician can prescribe quarantine for five to ten days according to the patientโs needs. If there is no need for longer quarantine, the doctor can prescribe a five-day isolation period, Helve continued.
