THL’s boss is proposing a new format for the digital Covid Passport

Director of the National Institute for and Welfare () Markku Tervahauta has recommended that Finland introduce a new digital vaccination certificate to replace the current Covid .

The EU Digital Covid Passport contains three different certificates: one showing that the holder has been vaccinated against the virus, a certificate of a negative test result and a certificate confirming that the person has recovered from the disease.

In a interview with A-studio on Wednesday, Tar Grave suggested that in addition to the , the new certificate should include information about vaccinations the holder has received against other diseases.

Information on whether the holder has become ill or recovered from Covid-19 would also be excluded. According to Tar Grave, the certificate could be used, for example, when traveling to other .

"This would be a bit like the traditional digitized version "Yellow card," which is an international vaccination certificate on paper or cardboard," he noted.

Last month, the government restricted the use of the Covid passport in most parts of the country. Although the THL does not recommend reintroducing the passport at this stage, Tervahauta pointed out that it could be included in the vaccination certificate at a later date.

Tar Grave and THL’s Director of Health Mika Salminen have provided their official assessment of the current Covid passport to the government. According to the author’s report MTV(in English) both recommend that the passport be updated to include at least three doses of Covid-19 .
