New genetic research is constantly being published, and our understanding of the past is becoming clearer. Thanks to the ancient DNA research of recent years, we know more about the migration of past people and even their appearance. Genomics proves that there is no biological basis to justify prejudices based on skin color or place of origin.
In addition to genomics, the “Leads to Our Roots” exhibition is about people’s lives and livelihoods. Among other things, museum guests can explore what the Stone Age apartment looked like and listen to the ancient Indo-European language. The large and impressive illustrations in the exhibition are made by Tom Björklund, a visual artist specializing in archaeological subjects. In connection with the exhibition, a new book on the prehistory of Espoo will be published Before Espoo (Before Espoo).
Later in the spring, the Glims Farmstead Museum will open a functional exhibition, “Scientists in the Footsteps of Domestic Animals,” where you can peek into the chamber of a DNA researcher. The exhibition, which opens on April 14, 2022, presents the latest interesting research results on the genome of a Finnish horse. The exhibition and the closely related program will also introduce other animals in rural Finland and discuss the change in the coexistence of humans and domestic animals.
