Jonas Poher Rasmussen’s animated documentary ‘Escape ‘(‘ Flee ‘) has just been nominated for three Oscars – an unprecedented achievement.
Moments ago, its inclusion on the five-film shortlist for best international feature film, best documentary and best animated film was confirmed by the academy.
In the history of the Oscars, the same film has never been shortlisted for all three categories. The Romanian film ‘Collective’ was nominated for both Best International Feature Film and Best Documentary last year.
It is only since 2020 both cartoons and documentaries have been allowed in Best international feature film category.
It could even surpass ‘Parasite’
The winner of the Sundance Grand Jury Prize did not manage to win any prizes at the Golden Globes and could easily miss all three Categories.
According to the bookmakers, it is a 5/1 third favorite to win Best Animated Movie and a 7/4 Second Favorite to Win Best Documentary.
According to Indiewire, it is among the frontrunners to get on the last five shortlists for best international feature filmbut gets tough competition from the Japanese contribution ‘Drive My Car’, which has also been nominated for best film and best director.
The Oscar winners will be confirmed d March 27.
