BEIJING, February 13 (Xinhua) – Canada defeated China 5-0 while Finland scored overtime to defeat Sweden 4-3 in men’s ice hockey at the Winter Olympics in Beijing on Sunday.
In the Group A match, the Canadians dominated the game from the beginning, scoring three goals in the first period. The red Maple Leaf extended the lead to 4-0 in the second period, and scored another goal to 46:23.
“We know our reality, we know what we have. I can not ask for more than I see, and I do not even look at the points, I only look at the effort. I am proud to be here on behalf of China,” says Ivano Zanatta, head coach of China.
“The only thing we can do right now is organize, get our bodies together again and be ready to play in the next match,” he added.
In the second match of the group, the USA took Germany 3-2 and finished first in group A.
In Group C actions, the Finns recorded an incredible comeback win with 4-3 after Sweden scored three goals in the first two periods. In the second match of the group, Slovakia defeated Latvia 5-2.
The United States, the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC), Finland and Sweden have already secured tickets for the quarterfinals.
