The Defense Forces (FDF) raised its level of internal security on Tuesday.
The level was raised to the “Bravo” level, the second lowest on the four-point scale.
"The purpose of raising the level of security is to increase the effectiveness of security and control and to draw the attention of staff to the observation of the operating environment," Colonel Torsti AstrénThe Communications Director of the Defense Forces told Yle.
“No military threat”
"We see that the situation in Finland’s neighboring areas is stable and there is no military threat to Finland," Astrén said.
The FDF did not specify the reason for raising the security level. It said adjusting the level was part of its normal operation.
The threat of violence or use of force against the garrisons or FDF staff has not been found to be greater than usual.
An increased level of internal security does not mean an increase in military readiness, which is regulated by the Defense Forces through a separate system.
The Finnish police announced on Tuesday that they had lowered their readiness level as the unclear threat to police stations eased.
