BEIJING, February 19 (Xinhua) – Defending champions Sweden secured the bronze medal for the women’s curling team in Beijing 2022 by beating the reigning world champions Switzerland 9-7 here on Saturday night.
Sweden took the lead with 3-2 in the first half and scored three more points in the sixth end by taking advantage of the Swiss’ miss and going on with 6-2.
Switzerland got back two in the seventh before the Swedes added two more in the eighth.
With a healthy structure and magnificent lotteries, Switzerland managed to score three points and reduced to 8-7 in the ninth end, but Sweden secured the victory by scoring a single point in the last.
This is the third Olympic curling medal for Sweden in Beijing 2022 after they won a gold in the men’s team and a bronze in mixed doubles.
When they talked to their families via video calls, the Swedish women cried and laughed.
If the bronze means the same as the gold four years ago, Anna Hasselborg, skip of Sweden, said: “It is very difficult to compare. Of course a gold is a gold, but in this tournament the bronze feels like a gold with all the matches we have gone through . “
“We really show that we are a team that you can never shake,” she added. “I’ll hug my little girl after I get home.”
