Peking [China]February 20 (ANI): Finland took home men’s Olympic ice hockey gold on Sunday, the first ever for their nation, and beat the Russian Olympic Committee 2-1 at the National Indoor Stadium in Beijing.
After winning two silver and four bronze medals, Finland finally took the ultimate prize and beat the defending Olympic champions in a hard-fought match where the Finns also took their first ever Olympic medal in any team sport.
In the second period, it was equal to Finland after defender Ville Pokka scored (23.28), assisted by Hannes Bjorninen and Atte Ohtamaa.
Finland finally took the lead 31 seconds into the third period via Bjorninen with Marko Anttila and Ohtamaa as assistants, to take home the gold, topped with a record without a loss in Beijing 2022.
In the bronze match on Saturday, Slovakia took bronze after beating Sweden 4-0 after two goals from teenage sensation Juraj Slafkovsky. (ANI)
