Police shot and insulted a person threatening the police at noon on Thursday in the center of Kirkkonummi, says the Länsi-Uusimaa Police Department.
According to police, the case is being investigated as a police assassination attempt.
The injured suspect received immediate first aid on the spot from police and first aid personnel and was taken to hospital for further treatment, police say.
"Police used a gun to stop a dangerous person. We don’t know more about the incident at this point," the Inspector-General of the National Investigation Agency (NBI), Jan Aarnisalotold Yle.
Police have isolated the scene for a technical investigation.
Authorities did not disclose the exact location of the scene, but said it was safe for people to move around Kirkkonummi.
In addition to the undisclosed preliminary investigation by the police, the prosecutor is also investigating the use of a firearm by the police.
