Minister for Economic Affairs of Finland Mika Lintilä (CEN) saddened on Thursday that he would not propose a building permit for Fennovoima ‘s Hanhikivi nuclear power plant.
During the debate on the Russian invasion of Ukraine in Parliament, Lintilä said that the project involving the Russian owner and the Russian nuclear reactor would not proceed any time soon.
"It is quite clear that, as a result of this conflict, this project will at least be significantly delayed," Lintilä told STT later on Thursday.
According to Lintilä, the building permit would exceed his desk after the Radiation and Nuclear Safety Authority STUK has made its own assessment.
Lintilä said he had not been in contact with Fennovoima on Thursday.
In a debate in Parliament, Lintilä had stated that parts of the reactor would be manufactured in Donetsk, one of the cities in the breakaway regions of Ukraine occupied by Russian troops.
Due to the general safety situation, Lintilä said that he did not consider it probable that he could recommend a building permit for the project to Finland.
