Warsaw [Poland]February 26 (ANI): On Saturday, Polish footballer Robert Lewandowski supported the Polish Football Association’s decision not to play its final game in the 2022 World Cup with Russia in Moscow on March 24.
The winners of Poland vs Russia will play against Sweden or the Czech Republic for a place in the final.
Cezary Kulesz, president of the Polish Football Federation, said on Twitter: “No more words, it’s time to act. Due to the escalation of the Russian Federation’s aggression against Ukraine, the Polish national team does not intend to play the game – of match against Russia.” To which the Polish men’s soccer team captain replied: “It is the right decision! I can not imagine playing a match with the Russian national team in a situation where armed aggression in Ukraine continues. Russian football players and fans are not responsible for this, but we can not pretend that nothing happens. ” On Friday, the Board (EB) of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) called on all international sports federations to relocate or cancel their sporting events currently planned in Russia or Belarus.
The IOC said that they should take into account the crimes of the Russian and Belarusian governments against the Olympic ceasefire and give the safety and security of athletes an absolute priority. The IOC itself has no events planned in Russia or Belarus.
UEFA has already moved the final place of the Men’s Champions League from Russia to France and Formula 1 canceled the Russian Grand Prix in the middle of the Ukraine crisis. (ANI)
