Finland intends to grant Estonia permission to export artillery to Ukraine when Germany changed its line of exports to Kiev.
Estonia wants to sell artillery pieces to Ukraine for use in the country’s fight against the Russian invasion, but needs the approval of previous owners.
Germany had sold them to Finland and had not previously allowed the export of its weapons to Ukraine. On Saturday, news agencies said the German government had granted permission.
Government sources told Yle on Saturday that the government was aware of the German decision, although Germany has not yet officially confirmed it.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Defense had previously stated that they had nothing against arms exports to Ukraine.
The Finnish government will also meet on Sunday to confirm the donation of 1,000 bulletproof vests, 1,000 helmets and a field hospital to Ukraine, according to two independent sources.
Ukraine has requested support from EU countries and directly from Finland, providing a list of the shortage of more than 100 sites.
Finland has been considering the request for a long time, as Finland’s principle has been that the country does not export weapons to war zones.
