At a press conference this morning, Foreign Minister Jeppe Kofod announced that Denmark will close its airspace to Russian aircraft in response to the invasion of Ukraine.
The ban, which also affects privately owned Russian aircraft, will come into force as soon as possible pending some legal details to be clarified.
“Russian planes will not fly into our airspace,” said Kofod.
“We have embarked on a new era in history, which will mark the beginning of the end for Putin and his terrible regime.”
Other countries, such as Germany, the United Kingdom, Finland, Austria and the Baltics, have also taken similar measures.
Kofod said he was hoping for an EU-wide airspace ban on Russian planes and expects Russia to respond with its own ban.
