According to the Food Trade Association, food and non-alcoholic beverages rose by 3.2 per cent in January from the previous year.
Prices have not risen so fast since January 2014.
"Rising costs throughout the supply chain, especially in primary production, have begun to shift to consumer prices for non-alcoholic beverages and food," said the association’s CEO Kari Luoto in a press release.
Food prices continue to follow headline inflation, which stood at 4.4 per cent in January.
According to the association, sales also increased as its members sold products worth 1.6 billion euros, which is about 3.8 percent more than in January 2021.
The credit said food price inflation was only 0.6 per cent last year, although prices began to rise in December.
The credit also warned that Ukraine’s war could affect prices in the long run as the Russian attack raises energy and grain costs.
